We own a small Farm called FairWinds Farm located in Cleveland TN on the TN/GA border. After a lifetime of Rebecca owning and showing American Saddlebreds, we started with our first Clydesdale in 1992 and then joined the GDHA! We knew a lot about horses, but the draft horses were so different from any of the other breeds we had owned. There was a lot to learn! In the GDHA, we have found lifelong friendships and a wealth of knowledge to help us both with our draft horses. Through the years we’ve owned several registered Clydesdale geldings and a registered Belgian gelding. Each and every one have taught us something new. We’ve both enjoyed showing in all levels at many shows for over 20 years on the Eastern Half of the USA in Halter, Show Cart, Show Hitch Team, English & Western Riding, and in Youth Classes. We also enjoy pleasure riding and pleasure driving with our drafts. Our goal is to promote Draft Horses in the South by providing advice and assistance to other draft horse owners! We hope our years of experience will help us support the GDHA in accomplishing this endeavor. Johnny & Rebecca.

Lamar Mitchell – Board Member
Lamar and his wife Crystal live in Shelbyville, Tennessee and have been active in the draft horse world since they purchased their first Percheron in 1989 and a second one in 1990. The Mitchell family farm is known as Southern View Farm and has been in the family for 22 years. They first used their Percheron in parades and local county fairs but after being around these gentle giants, they decided to expand their experiences with them and start competing in 2005. In 2006 the Southern View Farm Percheron went to Perry Georgia and actively competed in halter classes. After handling these talented animals and showing in halter classes, they decided in 2007 to purchase a driving cart and add that to their list of classes to enter. The Southern View Farm show string enjoyed many wins and a great show season. In 2015, the Mitchell’s jumped in and started showing a six . As of today, the Mitchell’s own 7 head of Percheron mares and continue to raise colts and improve their blood lines. Lamar is very active in promoting the draft horse breeds in the South. He is one of the few farriers in his area that will and can shoe a draft horse. Lamar and his wife Crystal are active in their local county 4-H club. They have unselfishly given countless hours of their time to coach the 4-H horse group as well as provided transportation to the Southern Regional 4-H horse competitions. The Mitchell family is always looking for an opportunity to introduce the draft horse breeds to young kids and their parents.
